Megaman is a timeless series, with many, many entries. There have been many spin-offs, but I’d like to take this time to look at the Robot Masters of the original Mega Man series. In this part, I will be looking at the Robot Masters from the first game, “Mega Man”

The grading system:

F: 0-20

D: 21-40

C: 41-60

B: 61-80

A: 81-100

CUT MAN

Weapon: Rolling Cutter

Weakness: Super Arm

HP: 28

Damage: 4 (4 from contact)

Ah, Cut Man. Such a simple design, yet so memorable. Cut Man is, unfortunately, also the easiest of the Robot Masters to defeat. He attacks by throwing the pair of scissors that are on top of his head. He is also usually the first Robot Master you would end up beating.

Design: 21/25 His design might be the best part of him. He just looks very cool. From his coloring, to the scissors on his head, he’s just pretty awesome. He looks very robotic, as a Robot Master should.

Weapon: 15/25 His weapon does make sense for him,  but it isn’t really all that useful in progressing through the level, and defeating enemy robots.

Coolness: 14/25 He’s a bit too cute looking to be considered cool, although the pair of scissors on his head do help his coolness.

Threat: 4/25 This is where Cut Man falls flat. Not only is his fight easy, but he himself does not seem threatening in the least. All he can really do is throw the pair of scissors on top of his head. I guess he could cut you?

Grade: 54/100 C+

ELEC MAN

Weapon: Thunder Beam

Weakness: Rolling Cutter

HP: 28

Damage: 10 (4 from contact)

Elec man. One of the more humanoid Robot Masters. He is pretty tough, as he does a ton of damage, and can kill you in three hits. He obviously has the power of electricity, which is actually pretty threatening. His design too, is pretty cool.

Design: 17/25 While his outfit is pretty cool, it feels as though something more could’ve been done. He also looks a tad too humanoid, but not bad.

Weapon: 20/25:  The Thunder Beam is quite useful, and powerful. Plus, it looks cool.
Coolness: 22/25 Control over electricity is a nice ability. Plus, just LOOK at his design. It’s pretty cool looking! Especially the mask.

Threat: 25/25 Our society runs on electricity, without it, we wouldn’t be able to maintain ourselves. And, electricity is very painful if you are shocked, and it can stop your heart.

Grade: 84/100 A-

ICE MAN

HP: 28

Damage: 10 (5 from contact)

Weapon: Ice Slasher

Weakness: Thunder Beam

Ice Man… sure, Cut Man is cute, but Ice Man just looks plain adorable. Unlike Cut Man however, he is a lot stronger. Also, he has ice that makes you slide around on the floor. Getting frozen is pretty bad, so he’s a lot more threatening too.

Design: 16/25 Granted, he definitely looks like he should be the ice Robot Master, but he really looks way too humanoid, so he loses points there.

Weapon: 8/25 It’s pretty weak, but it can at least freeze the fires in Fireman’s stage, so it has some use.

Coolness: 10/25 No, I’m not going to give him a high score here, just to make a pun. The point is, that he’s just a cute little robot in a parka. Kinda cool, but not very.

Threat: 17/25 While the cold is definitely a threat, there are many places where he wouldn’t really make too big of a difference. And there are many ways to counter the cold.

Grade: 51/100 C

FIRE MAN

Weapon: Fire Storm

Weakness: Ice Slasher

HP: 28

Damage: 10 (4 from contact)

Fire Man. He doesn’t fight fires, he fights USING fire! He’s pretty badass looking. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any hands. That must make things very difficult. Fire is very destructive, so he’s very threatening.

Design: 25/25 This is one of the best Robot Master designs, in my opinion. His arms shoot fire, and he has a flaming torch head. And his armor is pretty awesome.

Weapon: 20/25  The Fire Storm is incredibly useful. It is very good against multiple masters, and is very powerful. It also has a good amount of ammunition.

Coolness: 23/25 Awesome design, awesome weapon, his fires are supposed to be able to reach 7000-8000 degrees.

Threat: 24/25 The destructive force of fire is difficult to stop, and can spread easily. Plus, those fires would be as hot as the surface of the sun, so… yeah.

Grade: 92/100 A

BOMB MAN

Weapon: Hyper Bomb

Weakness: Fire Storm

HP:  28

Damage: 4 (4 from contact)

Bomb Man is… rather forgettable, actually. He looks a little silly, and he’s kinda cheesy, in a way. He’s just… Bomb Man. I really can’t think of much to say.

Design: 6/25 I really don’t much care for Bomb Man’s design. It’s just so… generic. If not for the bomb in his picture, you wouldn’t be able to tell what he’s supposed to do.

Weapon: 16/25 The Hyper Bomb is very powerful, and is quite useful, but does not have all too much ammo.

Coolness: 7/25 I really don’t think that Bomb Man is very cool at all. I mean, his bombs are OK, but that’s all he really has going for him.

Threat: 15/25 Bombs. Bombs are bad. Bombs explode. Bombs cause lots of damage from their explosions. But at least it isn’t like a nuclear weapon, or else he would be one of the biggest threats. But the bombs he uses don’t appear to be very powerful

Grade: 34/100 D+

GUTS MAN

Weapon: Super Arm

Weakness: Hyper Bomb

HP: 28

Damage: 4 (4 from contact)

Finally, Guts Man. His stage is very annoying, but he himself is pretty freaking awesome. Just look at him, he’s holding a boulder with one hand! And I like his Metool-looking helmet. He also has a giant jaw. I mean, look at that thing. I bet he could use it as a shovel.

Design: 25/25 Guts Man’s design is perfect. He’s just this giant strong robot. He can lift boulders with one hand, and he has heavy armor.

Weapon:  5/25 Unfortunately, his weapon is pretty useless, except for a few occasions. The Super Arm can’t actually be used normally, so it is pretty hard to get a use for it.

Coolness: 19/25 His design may suit him perfectly, but it isn’t the coolest. It is still pretty cool, especially his thick armor.

Threat: 15/25 While he is very strong, and can lift many things, and toss them, he needs things to, you know, toss. And if he can’t really grab anything heavy, he can’t do much. Plus, it would have to be something hard, and it could be easily dodged.

Grade: 64/100 B-

That wraps up the bosses from the original Megaman. I may go back and go to the other two added in Powered Up, but not right now. Next up, is Megaman II.
